School Rules

  • APPEARANCE

    • All students must be properly and neatly attired in the school uniform at all times-
    • White blouse (no shirt), blue tunic, dark brown nylon socks, flat dark brown shoes. (tunic should not be above the knees)
      • School pin, house pin.
      • A maximum of: 2 pairs fasteners; 2 pairs clips and 2 colours of hair accessories. Colours include dark brown, white, navy blue, sky blue(as per uniform) for 1st – 4th formers only and royal blue for 6th formers only.
      • Navy blue tailored jacket/sweater/school jacket
      • A watch and a pair of tiny round gold knobs (no stones or decoration) may be worn.
    • Hair must be well groomed.
    • No extensions, hair colour or bleached hair (partially or fully).
    • No butterfly/small decorative hair accessories.
    • No Nubian knots.
    • No individual plaits.
    • One graduation ring.
    • Watches and school bags should conform to school colours.
    • Nails must be clean and short (tip of the finger).
    • No nail polish is allowed

 

  • SPEECH

    • Students must speak in modulated tones on the compound and in the buses.
    • Student must speak politely at all times.
    • Standard English must be spoken at all times.

 

  • ON CAMPUS COMMUNICATION

    • Students are not allowed to ask ancillary workers, watchmen, bus crew or visitors to purchase items at the shop.
    • Students are not allowed to speak to visitors without first obtaining permission from Master of Mistress on duty.
    • Students must not converse with bus drivers, conductors, watchmen or groundsmen.
    • Students are not allowed visitors during school hours.

 

  •  ITEMS NOT ALLOWED

    • No chewing gums.
    • No radios
    • No music CD in student computers.
    • No cell phones, beepers, laptops(except for 4th to 6th formers), i-pods, computer games.

 

  • GENERAL CONDUCT

    • Every student should respect school property and/or the property of others.
    • A fine will be levied against students for any damage to school property.
    • Always walk on the right of the staircases, passages and corridors.
    • Adults have the right of way to passages, corridors and stairs – Students must stop at the bottom or top of stairs and allow the adult free passage.
    • No running in the quadrangle, on corridors, passages or verandahs.
    • No unnecessary dawdling about in the quadrangle or on corridors.
    • No sitting or walking around tanks.
    • No sitting or leaning on verandah railings.
    • All classrooms must be kept clean and garbage properly disposed of.
    • All students must be punctual for classes.
    • All students must respond to the bell for assembly in the quadrangle.
    • Every student must attend assembly, devotion, house and club meetings.
    • Students must leave classrooms and assembly in lines/queues.
    • Every student must eat in the assigned area i.e. dining room or a table under the trees.
    • No eating in the classrooms, on corridors or while walking.
    • There must be silence in the precincts of the Principal’s office, Vice Principals’ offices, Staffroom and in the Cafeteria and meal lines.

 

  • BOUNDS

    • It is out of bounds to go:
      • beyond the top tennis court
      • below the walls along the drive
      • to the dormitories during school
      • along the driveways
      • in parked buses or any other vehicle
      • to Valhalla, except for music classes
      • to the games field/teachers’ flats

 

  • CHAPEL

    • Students must not study in the Chapel. They may go in for quiet prayers and meditation when so moved.

 

  • HEALTH & ABSENCE FROM CLASSES

    • Any illness (slight or serious) must be reported to the nurse (slight illnesses at the appointed times).
    • The nurse should be advised when students are on medication.
    • Any student who has been absent from school must return with a letter or excuse from parents or guardian.

 

N.B.:

(1) A breach of common sense is a breach of the Hampton School rules, written or unwritten.

(2) Confiscated items may only be collected at the end of the school year.
